How can I learn to play padel?

May 20, 2026

A few years ago it was difficult to find padel courts full during the week. Now the opposite happens. In Marbella, San Pedro or Sotogrande more and more people start playing from scratch and almost everyone ends up at the same point: they want to know how to learn to play padel without wasting time or getting frustrated in the first matches, and today we are here to tell you about it.

Padel as a trending sport

Padel has become one of the most popular sports because it is very easy to start playing. You do not need previous experience and, even so, from the first day you can already play and have a good time. This makes many people feel encouraged to try it without thinking too much about it.

In addition, it has a very social side that makes it addictive. It is usually played in pairs, so it is common to meet friends, family or coworkers to play matches during the week or at the weekend. In areas like Marbella or San Pedro this atmosphere is very noticeable, with full courts and players of all levels mixed together.

It also helps that it is not a demanding sport at the beginning. You do not need to be fit to start playing. Over time, almost without noticing it, you improve coordination, movement and technique simply by playing and repeating situations.

How can I learn to play padel?

Learning padel takes time, but getting started is easier than it seems. The important thing is to go step by step and focus first on the basic aspects of the game.

Learn the basic rules first

Before thinking about complicated shots, it is important to understand how padel works. Knowing when the ball can hit the wall, how points are counted or where you should stand helps a lot from the beginning.

It is also important to understand that padel is not played the same way as tennis. Here the walls are part of the game and patience is usually more important than power.

Use a comfortable racket for beginners

Many people start with rackets that are too difficult to control. At the beginning, the best option is to use a comfortable and easy-to-handle racket so you can learn the movements properly and gain confidence.

There is no need to buy the most expensive model to start. The important thing is to feel comfortable on the court and be able to control the ball easily.

Learn to control the ball

One of the most common mistakes when someone starts is trying to hit too hard. In padel, it is more important to place the ball well and keep it inside the court.

When you begin, it is best to play calmly and gain confidence little by little. Controlling direction and ball height is much more important than hitting hard without control.

Get used to playing with the walls

The walls are one of the most important parts of padel. At first they may seem difficult, but with practice you start to understand better how to use rebounds to your advantage.

Many beginner players try to hit the ball too early because they are afraid of the wall. With patience you will see that rebounds help a lot to prepare each shot better.

Play matches with people at your level

To improve faster, it is better to play calm matches with people who are also starting. This way you can practice without pressure and better understand how to move around the court.

It also helps a lot to watch other players’ matches to learn positioning, movement and how to play as a team.

Sign up for padel classes

Padel classes are one of the fastest ways to improve. A coach can correct mistakes from the beginning and teach basic aspects such as positioning, movement or the correct way to hit the ball.

At Roza Rossa Academia de Tenis we work with players from Marbella, Sotogrande, San Pedro and other nearby areas of the Costa del Sol. We adapt the classes to each person’s level so learning is comfortable and simple.

In addition to our padel classes, we are also a tennis academy in Marbella with training for children and adults all year round. Many people combine tennis and padel to improve coordination, technique and movement on the court.

At Roza Rossa Academia de Tenis we aim to help anyone start playing and improve step by step, without pressure and enjoying the sport from day one. Contact us and start training.
